Access Control in Walnut Creek by Ridgeline Lock & Key
1You call, the rate is quoted from the card and locked.
2A text names the tech, the van and the window.
3The receipt repeats the locked rate. Nothing added at the door.

Access control replaces keys with credentials you can withdraw from a laptop: a fob for a Shadelands office, a keypad on the staff door of a clinic near John Muir, phone credentials for a practice with rotating per-diem staff, a reader on the pedestrian gate of an office condo lot off Treat Blvd. Ridgeline Lock & Key installs everything from a single standalone keypad to networked readers that keep an audit trail on every door in the suite.

The survey counts doors, looks at what each one already carries, and works out where power can reach. A recommendation follows door by door: an electric strike where the frame allows one, a maglock on an aluminum-and-glass entrance with no room for a strike, a controller sized to the count with headroom left over, and a credential your staff will actually keep on them rather than leave in a drawer. Readers, strikes, request-to-exit sensors, wiring and software go in together, with your first users enrolled. At least one door keeps a mechanical override for the morning after a power cut.

Access control is quoted per project, since door count, controller class and credential type set the figure between them. The written quote separates each door, its hardware, the controller, the credentials and the labor, so you can see what a fourth door would cost before committing to three. The $89 survey is applied toward the job. After approval the number holds, and if a door turns out to need new prep, it is priced and approved before work continues rather than surfacing on the invoice.

Call with the door count and the kind of building. The survey is booked, a name and a window arrive by text, and the quote follows the walk within a day. Installation is scheduled around the tenants and their patients. Every door is tested with a credential in hand, and the handover covers adding a person, removing a person and setting a schedule, at the pace of whoever will actually be doing it on Monday. The receipt itemizes each door separately.

My hands are not what they were and the old knob on the front door had become a wrestling match. Quoted $248 for a lever handle and an easy-turn deadbolt that meet the manor hardware standard, and $248 is what my card showed. He knew the gate check-in procedure and allowed for it instead of calling me from the entrance in a panic. Both keys work with one finger now.

FAQ

Access Control: quick answers

Our suite sits in a building with its own lobby system.+

Suite-level access control runs independently of the lobby readers. Where the building allows enrollment, one credential can serve both; where it does not, staff carry two, which is common in the older Ygnacio Valley office buildings. Coordination with the property manager covers the suite door and nothing beyond it.

Can a glass storefront door take a reader?+

Yes, with a maglock at the head of the frame, because an aluminum stile leaves no room for an electric strike. A request-to-exit sensor and an interior push button cover the way out, and the door still locks mechanically with a key after hours in case the building loses power.

We manage suites with high tenant turnover.+

That is the situation access control was built for. Removing a credential takes a minute at a laptop and costs nothing, whereas a departed tenant’s key means repinning every cylinder it could reach. Most managers keep mechanical keys on the exterior doors as a fallback and run everything else on credentials.

Calls answered 24/7. The visit, the labor and the parts are inside the figure you hear, and that figure is the one on the receipt. Ninety days on the workmanship.
